INSPECTION IS FIRST !

We start by inspecting the place that has been affected by water. Our technician categorizes site condition and water categories, water categories are three different, and 4 classes, each one tells us how we should treat a given area that has been hit by water, following IICRC standards, water category and class, also tells us what can be saved and what needs to be removed. Our Technician will check all sections , using special moisture meter and other equipment, to eliminate non-affected sections. We will provide you all necessary drying log, with maps, which are necessary in insurance claim. Of course our specialist will help you open claim in insurance and go thru with all necessary documents .

Category 1 Water – Sanitary

The IICRC S500 defines Category 1 water damage as water that “originates from a sanitary water source and does not pose a substantial risk from dermal, ingestion, or inhalation exposure.” Examples can include:

  • Water supply lines

  • Melting ice/snow

  • Rainwater

  • Toilet tanks

  • Toilet bowls without contaminants

The keywords here are “sanitary water source” and “does not pose a substantial risk”. That is why this water is considered “clean”. It is also why a restoration contractor like Promore Company can theoretically salvage and dry any affected building material. Wet drywall, carpet, pad, hardwood flooring, and more can and are oftentimes dried and salvaged on Category 1 water damage incidents. Remember that any water damage over 72 hour without mitigation will turn to category 3.

Category 2 Water – Significantly Contaminated

The IICRC S500 defines Category 2 water damage incidents as water that “contains significant contamination and has the potential to cause discomfort or sickness if contacted or consumed by humans.” Examples can include:

  • Dishwasher/washing machine discharge or overflow

  • Toilet bowl overflow with urine

  • Hydrostatic pressure seepage (commonly occurs in basements or slabs)

  • Broken aquariums

  • Punctured water beds

Category 2 water loss contain significantly contaminated water. Make sure your restoration contractor removes wet carpet padding and disinfects affected materials like carpeting. Our company uses an anti-microbial spray and HEPA vacuuming to disinfect affected materials after category 2 water damage incidents. Remember that any water damage over 72 hour without mitigation will turn to category 3.

Category 3 Water – Grossly Contaminated

The IICRC S500 defines Category 3 water damage as water that is “grossly contaminated and can contain pathogenic, toxigenic, or other harmful agents and can cause significant adverse reactions to humans if contacted or consumed.” Examples of Category 3 water damage can include:

  • Sewage

  • Waste line backflows originating from beyond the trap

  • Seawater

Category 3 water loss contain grossly contaminated water. Your restoration company contractor should remove all affected cosmetic materials such as insulation, hardwood flooring, drywall, carpet padding, carpet, and cushions. Our company uses an anti-microbial spray and HEPA vacuuming to disinfect affected items after category 3 water damage incidents.

ALL TYPE OF WATER DAMAGE ARE REQUIRED DRYING EQUIPMENT AND AIR SCRUBBERS

TO DRY-OUT SURFACES AND STABILIZE AIR ENVIRONMENT .

If water damage categories refer to the toxicity and source of water damaging the home, then the four classes of water damage refer to the scale and extent of the damage. When gauging the class of water damage, it’s important to factor in the amount of area covered by a leak and the materials in the affected area.

Class 1 – Class 1 water damage refers to water damage that’s minimal in scope. Class 1 damage may only cover part of a room or area. The damage to materials in that space may be minor, with only minimal water absorption.

Class 2 – Class 2 water damage describes more significant water damage, with water saturating a room of carpet and cushion. Water has likely seeped into particleboard and structural wood, as well as possibly concrete.

Class 3 – Class 3 water damage describes damage where water may have come from overhead. In class 3 damage, walls, ceilings, carpets, and even insulation are saturated with water.

Class 4 – Class 4 water damage describes water damage where even water-resistant materials like bricks, concrete, and stone are affected. Class 4 damage is generally severe, and it may require specialized treatment methods and longer drying times.
